Bela, the son of Beor, was king of Edom, and his city was called Dinhaba.
And he sent messengers to Balaam, son of Beor, to Petora, which is by the river, to the sons of the people in the land, and called him, saying:
"Behold, a people has come out of Egypt,
behold, they cover the face (surface) of the earth,
and they have settled opposite me.
And he took up his parable (he began to speak in images and proverbs, often with many meanings; sometimes even prophetically – Hebr. mashal) and said:
"Thus says (speaks, proclaims) Balaam, son of Beor,
and proclaims (says, proclaims) about the man (a warrior, a man in his prime, full of his own strength and power) who has pure (flawless, clear-sighted – Hebr. tam) eyes,
And he took up his proverb (he began to speak in images and proverbs, often with many meanings; sometimes even prophetically – Hebr. mashal) and said:
"Thus proclaims (says, proclaims) Balaam, son of Beor,
and proclaims (says, proclaims) about the man (a warrior, a man in his prime, full of his own strength and power) who has pure (flawless, clear-sighted – Hebr. tam) eyes,
And they killed the king of Midian with the rest of the slain, Evi and Rekem and Tsor and Hur (Hebr. Chor) and Reva, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam, the son of Beor, with the sword.
because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired Balaam, the son of Beor from Pethor in Aram-Naharaim, against you to curse you. []
and Balaam, son of Beor, the seer, whom the sons of Israel slew with the sword among the rest of the slain.
Then Balak, son of Zippor, rose up and fought against Israel, and he sent for Balaam, son of Beor, to curse you.
These were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before there was a king in Israel:
Bela, the son of Beor, and his city was called Dinhaba.
My people, remember
what Balak, king of Moab, devised, and
Balaam, son of Beor, answered him,
from Shittim to Gilgal
so that you may understand (have intimate knowledge of) the righteous deeds of the Lord (Yahweh).
They have left the straight path and gone astray, following the same path as Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.
