Of these twelve names, only Caleb () and Joshua (here called Hosea, see ) are mentioned as giving a good report in other places in the Bible. The name Caleb comes from the Hebr. kelev, the word for dog, which in turn means "close to the heart." Probably in the sense that Caleb was faithful.
