Proverbs of King Lemuel—a burden (Hebr. masa)
that his mother taught (raised, instructed) him.
[Lemuel means "belongs to the Lord" and is probably a symbolic name for Solomon. This means that it is his mother Bathsheba who gives him these words. She was also the queen mother of the kingdom (Hebr. ), an official title for the king's mother. She was the "first lady of the kingdom" and the most influential woman in the royal court and the king's chief advisor. Now follow three verses:]
It is not fitting for kings, Lemuel,
it is not fitting for kings to drink wine,
or for princes (rulers – Hebr. razan) to crave strong drink (intoxicating drink, alcohol) []
