One of those who listened to us was a woman named Lydia. She was [originally] from the city of Thyatira and traded in purple cloth. [She was in a lucrative business. The city of Thyatira, on the other side of the Aegean Sea, was known for its textile industry, see Rev 2:18–29.] She was [already] a believer, and the Lord opened her heart so that she took in (listened intently to, held fast to) what Paul said.

But when Paul and Silas were out of prison, they went instead to Lydia's house, where they met the brothers and sisters in the faith and encouraged (comforted, exhorted) them.
[It is likely that the congregation met at Lydia's house. Here were the four missionaries, Lydia's family, the jailer, and his family. The young slave girl who had been freed was probably here too.]
Then they [Paul, Silas, and perhaps Timothy] moved on [southwest toward Thessalonica].
