Then the Lord (Yahweh) said to me, "Take a large clay tablet and write on it with human writing (as humans usually write):
Hasten destruction—the spoil is urgent! [Hebr. maher shalal hash-baz.]
Then I went to the prophetess, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Then the Lord (Yahweh) said to me, "Give him the name Maher Shalal Hashbaz [meaning: 'Hasten destruction, the spoil hastens,' see verse 1].
[The prophetess is believed to be Isaiah's wife. Apart from this unnamed woman, there are only four women who are called prophetesses in the Old Testament: Miriam, Moses' sister (Ex. 15:20); Deborah (Judg. 4:4); Huldah (2 Kings 22:14; 2 Chron. 34:22) and Noadiah (Neh. 6:14).]
