[The Hebrew name for this temple offering is korban, see Mark 7:11. This was a type of vow offering where the giver committed to giving a gift at a later date, but managed the money until the vow was fulfilled. According to the rules, the giver was released from the responsibility of providing for his parents, which clearly violated the commandment to honor one's parents.]
