His father [David] had never rebuked him [by reprimanding him] in all his days, asking, "Why are you doing this?"
He was also handsome
and was born after Absalom [2 Sam. 3:3, 13–18].
[David had been an absent father, see Prov 3:11–12; 22:6; Heb. 12:6–7. Adonijah was more focused on outward appearance than on character, see 1 Sam. 16:7. Adonijah was the oldest son alive, so he assumed he would be entitled to the throne.]
