First Kings 9:13

And he said, "What cities are these that you have given me, my brother?" And they were named Kavol, (as they are called) to this day.
[Kavol means bound, fettered. The name appears once before in Josh. 19:27, where it is a city in the territory of Asher on the border with Tyre (a few miles east of Haifa and Akko). Hiram seems to have picked up the name of that city and applied it to the entire area. The word sounds a bit like the Hebrew words for something worthless or fleeting. The Jewish historian Josephus writes that it sounds "unpleasant" in Phoenician. These cities were probably in poor condition. Hiram does not accept these cities, so Solomon later rebuilt them and had Hebrews move there, see 2 Chron. 8:2]
