First Chronicles 5:1

Reuben was the firstborn of Israel, for he was born first. But because he defiled his father's bed [by lying with Judah's concubine Bilhah, see Gen. 35:22; 49:4], his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, but not so that Joseph would be listed in the genealogy as the firstborn.
