Nehemiah 9:19

Because of your infinite mercy (compassion, tender love), you did not abandon them in the desert. The pillar of cloud did not disappear during the day, but guided them on their way. The pillar of fire did not cease to light up the path they were to take at night. [The cloud and the fire are an image of the Holy Spirit and his guidance.]
