from the animals of the earth
and from the birds of the heavens
that give wisdom (Hebr. chacham)."
[The two verbs are placed first and last, forming an inclusio. Central to this is a call to study creation, which is described in several opposites, from all the animals of the earth to a single bird in an upward movement from the earthly to the heavenly. Throughout the Bible, there are many lessons to be learned from animals (especially four-footed animals and livestock, which behemah often refers to), e.g., the relationship between the sheep and the shepherd in Ps. 23. Jesus urges us to look at the birds, see Matt. 6:26.]
