Psalms 69:21

They have put poison (gall, bitterness) in my food
and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
[Hebr. rosh is used for poison, often derived from a plant (Hos. 10:4; Amos 6:12) or snake venom, see Deut. 32:33; Job 20:16. When Jesus hung on the cross, he was first offered gall to ease his suffering, which he refused (Matt. 27:34). Then he was offered sour wine, which he drank, prolonging his suffering, see John 19:29.]
