He digs a pit and makes it deep [the double description, both digging and making the pit deep, reinforces how the wicked person spends time and energy to trap another person],
but falls into the well (grave) [trap] he digs [in the midst of his work]. [This was not permitted, see Ex. 21:33–34.]
