It may be the feminine form of the name Solomon – which would indicate that she is related to him. It may also be an association with the city of Shunem, a city in the territory of the tribe of Issachar, see ; . If one reads the text as a prophecy about Jesus and the church—his bride—then this name is an excellent description in harmony with what is written in Eph. 5:26-27 about Jesus' perfect bride.]
