Daniel 10:3

I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine touched my lips. [Daniel seems to have partially fasted from food, lived simply, and eaten only bread and water for three weeks.] I also did not anoint my body with oil until the three weeks had passed. [Anointing one's body with oil was common among the Jews and ancient peoples; the oil softened the skin and protected against the heat.]
