And when the ark was set down, he said:
"Return (Hebr. shov), Lord (Yahweh),
to the countless (myriads) thousands of Israel!"

[This is the first time that this particular inflection of the words kumah and sjuvah is used. The Hebrew text has a mark in the margin before verse 35 and after verse 36. There are various theories about what these two inverted Nun (׆) indicate. The mirror-inverted 14th letter Nun looks like a square bracket and was probably a mark used by those who copied the scrolls to indicate that there was something special about the text here. In Greek writings, an inverted sigma (Ͻ) was used in a similar way by scribes. Some rabbis interpret the sign as a delimiter, which divides the Book of Leviticus into three parts. This makes a total of seven (not five) books of Moses, which then corresponds to the seven pillars of wisdom, see Prov 9:1. It seems to be a mark that the text does not really belong where it is and should be moved to another place. There is a quote from Simeon Gamaliel (son of the Gamaliel mentioned in Acts 5:34) that when the Messiah returns, these verses will be fulfilled and moved to their rightful place. The fact that this interpretation existed at the same time that John was writing his gospel gives even deeper meaning to the statement that the Word "tabernacled" (dwelt) among us, see John 1:14.
There are a total of nine inverted Nun in the Hebrew text, the other seven are found in Ps. 107:23–28, 40. Both of these sections deal with the desert journey, and in the passage in Psalm 107 there are also Messianic connections to the sign of Jonah.]
