[Verses 17-20 form a chiasm where the central question is whether the land is good or evil.] This was at the time when the first grapes were harvested.
[It was late summer or early autumn, somewhere between the end of July and early September. The Israelites had left Egypt in the spring two years earlier, see Num. 10:11; Ex. 12:1.]
