And Balaam said to Balak, "Stand by the burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the Lord (Yahweh) will come and meet me. And whatever he shows me, I will tell you." And he went to a bare hill. [It was the common belief among the peoples that a hill was closest to the gods. It was on such hills that altars and temples were built.]
