Matthew 10:34

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword (a smaller, shorter sword used in close combat).
[The peace that Jesus gives is between God and man, see Isa. 9:6. We are urged to strive for peace with all people, see Heb. 12:14, but not everyone wants that, see 2 Tim 3:12. It is not God's will, nor is He the cause of division, but it is inevitable. It is a conflict between light and darkness, between God's children and the devil's children, and this conflict even reaches members of the same family. When a person is saved and lives in the light, the contrast to their former life in darkness becomes very apparent. Former friends can become enemies when they feel judged, see John 3:16–21.]
