Matthew 26:5

But they said, "Not during the festival, lest there be an uproar among the people."
[Many Jews made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem at least once a year. During the Passover festival, the city was full of pilgrims. Many of them saw Jesus as a prophet, and the leadership did not want to cause unrest, but they later changed their minds, see verses 14-15. Caiaphas was high priest from 18-36 CE. His father-in-law, Annas, who had previously been high priest from 6-15 CE, continued to be the unofficial high priest among the Jews, see John 18:13–24.]
