Matthew 5:32

But I say to you [and perfects the meaning]: whoever divorces his wife – for any reason other than unfaithfulness – causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
[God's original plan was that people should not divorce. Marriage is "until death do them part," see Rom. 7:1–3; 1 Cor. 7:39. The only reason for divorce for believing couples is adultery. Paul also mentions a case where one person is saved and the other wants a divorce; in that case, it cannot be prevented, see 1 Cor. 7:15. God hates divorce, see Mal. 2:16, because he personally knows the deep pain it causes, see Jer. 3:8. The subject recurs in the Gospel of Matthew, see Matt. 19:3–12.]
