Mark 1:35

[This passage, verses 35-39, is one of several in which Peter's eyewitness account shines through in the Gospel of Mark, see also Mark 2:1–5; 11:20–21; 13:1–4. We can imagine how Peter vividly told Mark about how he searched for his friend Jesus, see verse 36. The words he/him are used seven times in this passage. As an eyewitness who was there himself, it is more common in colloquial speech to talk about what "he" did than to talk about what "Jesus" did. By retaining this form, Mark shows his readers that we can have a close personal relationship with Jesus!]
Early the next morning (during the last night watch – between three and six o'clock on Sunday morning), long before it was light, he [Jesus] got up and went to a lonely place. There he prayed. [This is the first of three times that Mark notes how Jesus withdraws to pray early in the morning, see Mark 6:46; 14:32–41.]
