Luke 1:22

When he [finally] came out, he could not talk to them.
[He was expected to speak the Aaronic blessing over the people, see Num 6:24–26. Instead, Zechariah gestures and tries to explain without words that he has experienced something special.]
They understood that he had had a vision in the temple. He made signs to them again and again because he was unable to speak.
