Luke 10:30

Jesus took up the discussion [shifting the focus from being questioned to leading the conversation] and replied:

"A man [a jew] was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho. He was attacked by robbers who took his clothes and beat him, then left him there half dead. [Jericho is a city 18 miles (30 km) northeast of Jerusalem. The road between these cities stretches through mountains and desert with an elevation difference of over 3,500 feet (1,000 meters). It was not uncommon for gangs of robbers to operate in these areas.]
