Only one thing is necessary. [This may refer to the fact that Martha does not need to prepare many elaborate dishes, but that a simple meal is enough, or that listening to Jesus is the most important thing and the only thing that is necessary.] Mary has chosen the better part [discipleship, sitting at Jesus' feet], and it shall not be taken from her."
