[Circumstances had changed; now the disciples would face more opposition and needed to be prepared.] Then he said to them, "But now [times have changed], whoever has a purse should take it and also a leather bag [with provisions]. Anyone who does not have a sword (a short sword used in close combat) should sell his cloak and buy one.
