Luke 4:5

[The order of Luke's account differs from Matthew's and he shifts places between the second and third temptations. By putting the Jerusalem event last, he emphasizes the city of Jerusalem which has a central place in his two books. It is likely that Matthew's order is the chronological one because the description and conjunctions are more precise. He uses the Greek tote which indicates time, whereas Luke uses the Greek kai which does not indicate any temporal order.]
The devil took him up [on a high mountain, see Matt. 4:8] and in a moment he showed him all the kingdoms of the world. [It was as if he traveled around the world and saw all the kingdoms of the world in a vision, and perhaps especially the great Roman Empire, which was the dominant world power at that time.]
