John 18:40

Then they all shouted back again, "Not him, but Barabbas!" Barabbas was a robber (violent man, revolutionary).
[Based on how this word is used in other contemporary literature, it is likely that Barabbas was not just a simple robber. Rather, he was a revolutionary leader and violent man who, with mixed motives of nationalism and personal desire, had committed robbery and terrorized Judea.]
