John 20:25

So the other disciples told him, "We have seen (experienced, encountered) the Lord."
He replied, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands (wrists), and put my finger into the nail marks, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe."
[The Greek word cheir is used for both hand and wrist, see Acts 12:7 where the chains fell from Peter's wrists. In Aramaic, Thomas is Tauma and the word for twin is taama, which becomes a play on words: "Tauma was called taama." Thomas has undeservedly been given the title "Thomas the Doubter," a phrase never used in the Bible. Thomas just wants to see what the other disciples saw, see John 20:20. Thomas is a realist who asks questions, see John 11:16; 14:5.]
