In consultation with his wife, he kept part of the purchase price for himself. He then took part of the money and laid it at the apostles' feet. [Ananias is the Greek form of the Hebrew Hananja, which means "God is gracious." Sapphira means "sapphire" and "beautiful" in Aramaic.]
