First letter to the Corinthians 1:4

[Paul begins with thanksgiving for the Corinthians. The first verse and the last verse, verse 9, form a framework that summarizes Paul's entire argument – God is the one who holds together the past, present, and future. Paul is diplomatic; he cannot thank them for their "faith," see Rom. 1:8, or their "common commitment to the gospel," see Phil. 1:5, or their "faith and love," see Col. 1:4, or their "faith, love, and hope," see 1 Thess 1:3. Instead, he thanks them for God's grace and undeserved favor upon them!]
I always thank my God for you because of the grace (power, undeserved favor) of God that you have received in the Anointed One (Messiah, Christ) Jesus.
