First letter to the Thessalonians 1:5

for our gospel [the good news we preached] came to you not only in words but also with
power [miracles and signs] and
the Holy Spirit [who convinced you of sin, gave you comfort and joy] and
full certainty [of your conversion],
just as
you know how we lived among you (what kind of men we were) for your sake.
[Unlike Greek philosophies, which were based only on teachings in words, the Thessalonians had received the gospel that changed their lives. They had also seen for themselves how Paul, Silas, and Timothy lived their lives among them.]
