First letter to the Thessalonians 2:9

[Paul now shifts the image from a mother, see verse 8, to a father. He used similar language to the believers in Corinth, where he was now, see 1 Cor. 4:15. In the same way, he was a spiritual father to the believers in Thessalonica. He worked to provide for them, see verse 9; lived a righteous life, see verse 10; and encouraged them, see verses 11-12.]
Brothers and sisters in faith, you remember our toil and hardship. Night and day we worked so that we would not be a burden to any of you while we preached the gospel of God to you. [Paul worked with leather and made tent cloths, among other things, see Acts 18:3.]
