and will give relief to those who are tormented, together with us.
[Grace is available to everyone, even to those who persecute the church, as Paul himself proves. God's holiness and righteousness demand a just Judg., see Rom. 12:19. This eternal perspective does not take away the pain of those who are persecuted and tormented for their faith, but it gives a different perspective on suffering. This passage has similarities with Isa. 66:6–9.]
