Joshua 5:6

For the sons of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, and even the warriors among the people who came out of Egypt perished, because they did not listen to the word of the Lord (Yahweh), wherefore the Lord (Yahweh) swore that he would not let them see the land that the Lord promised their fathers with an oath that he would give us [the author includes himself here], a land flowing with milk and honey.
