Judges 3:7

[The Book of Judges goes through the twelve judges who served during this period in chronological order. Here in the Book of Judges, seven sections are created. Seven leaders (the most prominent) are described in detail, while the other five are only mentioned in passing. Gideon is the fourth (of the seven described in detail), which means that in the chiastic pattern he is the central judge. His son is also described here, who was not a judge but a king, see Judges 9:6. Each Hebrew name also has a meaning. Gideon, for example, means breakthrough.
1. Othniel – Lion of God (Judges 3:7–11)
2. Ehud – unity (Judges 3:12–30)
3. Shamgar – sword (Judges 3:31)
4. Deborah – bee and torch/light (Judges 4:1–5:3)
5. Gideon – breakthrough (Judges 6:1–8:32)
– Gideon's son Avimelech – king's father (Judges 8:33–9:57)
6. Tola – worm/crimson (Judges 10:1–2)
7. Jair – he gives light (Judges 10:3–4)
8. Jephthah – he opens (Judges 10:6–12:7)
9. Ivtsan – their whiteness (Judges 12:8–10)
10. Elon – oak/mighty (Judges 12:11–12)
11. Abdon – slavery/oppression (Judges 12:13–15)
12. Samson – like the sun (Judges 13:1–16:31)
Each section follows a similar pattern with initial oppression, the Lord's intervention, and then the end of oppression.]

And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord (Yahweh) and forgot the Lord their God (Yahweh Elohim) and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
