And it came to pass, when David came to Mahanaim, that Shobi, the son of Nahash, from Rabbah of the land of the Ammonites, and Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-Debar, and Barzillai, the Gileadite, from Rogelim,
And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim and went to the Jordan with the king to escort him on his way across the Jordan.
And Barzillai was a very old man, 80 years old, and he had provided for the king while he was staying in Mahanaim, for he was a very great man.
And the king said to Barzillai, "Come over with me, and I will provide for you in Jerusalem."

But show mercy (loving kindness – Hebr. chesed) to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table, for they came to me when I fled from your brother Absalom.
