and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, commanded the Cherethites
and commanded the Pelethites,
And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, the son of a warrior from Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he struck down the two lions of Moab (famous heroes) and he went down and struck down a lion in the pit (cistern) during the snowy season (winter).
These things did Benayahu, the son of Jehojada, and had a name among the three mighty men (warriors, men in their prime – Hebr. gever).
But Zadok the priest [David's second high priest, see ; ] and [the commander of David's bodyguard] Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the prophet Nathan, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men (Hebr. gever) who belonged to David, did not side with Adonijah.
But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, he has not called.
And King David said [in a series of clear instructions, the elderly David regains the energy to make the necessary preparations so that Solomon can be anointed king]: "Call to me Zadok the priest [who can anoint a new king], and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada." And King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he came upon him so that he died.
And it was told Solomon, "Joab has fled to the tent of the Lord (Yahweh), and behold, he is by the altar." And Solomon sent Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, saying, "Fall upon him (kill him)."
And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, went up and came upon him (met him, to kill him – Hebr. parag) and struck him, and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
And the king appointed Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, in his place over the army, and Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.
And the king commanded Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and he went out and fell upon him (killed him) so that he died. And the kingdom was established (formed) in Solomon's hand.

In addition, Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel, was a brave man and did many great deeds. He struck down the two Ariels in Moab, and it was he who, on a snowy day, went down and killed the lion in the pit.
Such were the exploits of Benaiyah, the son of Jehoiada, and he had a great name among the three heroes.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of the Kerethites and Pelethites. And David's sons were chief officers in his presence.
The third commander, who served during the third month [Sivan – May/June], was Benayah, the son of Jehoiada the high priest. His division numbered 24,000.
After Ahithophel came Jehoiada, the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was the king's commander-in-chief.
