Matthew 8:34

Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus, and as soon as they saw him, they begged him to leave their area.
[Mark describes the event in more detail, see Mark 5:1–20. There he also hints at the reason why they wanted Jesus to leave them, see Mark 5:16. The value of the pigs was somewhere around seven years' wages. The owners cared more about the financial loss than the fact that tormented people had been healed. The main point is that Jesus has authority over the entire spirit world, over Satan, over demons, and over everyone and everything they control. His casting out of these demons demonstrates that authority and was a foreshadowing of the final judgment of these evil spirits.]
