Luke 4:2

for forty days. There he was tempted (his character was constantly tested) by the devil. During those days he ate nothing [in the same way that Moses and Elijah also fasted, see Ex. 34:28; 1 Kings 19:8], and when they [the forty days of fasting] were over he became hungry.
