Esther 1:22

He sent out letters to all the royal provinces, to each province in its own writing and to each people in its own language, that each man should be master of his own house and speak the language of his own people.
[The letter established two things: full male headship in the family and, in cases where two languages were spoken in the home, the right to decide which language to speak. The Greek historian Herodotus describes how the Persians were able to send letters quickly by using a new horse and rider for each day’s journey.]
