Exodus 21:7

[In surrounding cultures, it was not uncommon for children to be sold as slaves/servants. In the hope of a better future, a poor daughter could be sold to a wealthy household. Among the Hebrews, such sales were comparatively rare, but they did occur occasionally as a result of extreme poverty (Neh. 5:5). Women sold in this way could demand their freedom after six years if they so desired (Deut. 15:17), but if they were bought to be wives, they received additional protection. The rules here protect the girl from being sold on to others and sexually exploited.]
And if a man sells his daughter to be a servant (Hebr. amah), she shall not leave as the male servants do.
