Lamentations 2:1

Alas (woe, how, why) [Lam. 1:1], the Lord (Yahweh) has in his anger
covered the daughter of Zion [the temple mount in Jerusalem] with a cloud.
He has cast down the glory of Israel
from heaven to earth;
he forgot his footstool [the temple or the ark, see Ps. 99:5; 132:7]
on the day of his anger.
[The first Hebrew letter is: א – Alef. The sign represents an ox. The letter symbolizes strength, the leader, the first and the most important. In this verse, it is the word "Ack" that begins with this letter. This reinforces the feeling of sorrow. It is sorrow that takes command and characterizes everything both in this verse and throughout the book.]
