Lamentations 4:10

Women's hands, full of grace (mercy),
have cooked their own children,
they (the children) were their food
when the daughter of my people was destroyed. [Deut. 28:56–57]
[The tenth and smallest Hebrew letter is: י – yod. The sign depicts an arm or a closed hand. Since this letter is a dot, it is the beginning of all other letters and often describes creation. The hand symbolizes strength and power. In this verse, the word "hands" begins with this letter, and here the hands become an image of how desperate the situation has become. Here, one can interpret that these hands should have been tender mother's hands, but are now forced to do something terrible. But Hebrew also allows for an interpretation in which the mothers, in sheer desperation, want to spare their children from an evil future and see it as a more merciful solution to let them die and thus escape misery, rather than everyone facing a certain, slow demise.]
