Matthew 18:21

Then Peter came to him and said, "Lord, how many times can my brother sin against me and still be forgiven by me? As many as seven times?"
[According to the rabbinic tradition based on Amos 1:3, it was enough to forgive someone three times. The fourth time someone did the same wrong to you, you did not need to forgive them, because their repentance was not considered genuine. Peter now suggested more than double that. The number seven also stands for perfection.]
