Luke 16:1

Jesus also said to his disciples:
[Jesus has just told the parable of the younger son who returned home. The question that is up in the air is: What happened to the older son? Literally, the Greek phrase is "and he also said to his disciples," where the words "and" and "also" clearly connect this story to the previous one. The parable is about the danger of loving money, and it is also related to the next parable about the rich man and Lazarus the beggar. How we handle money in this world affects where we spend eternity.]
"There was a rich man who had a steward. [The rich man owned land with olive trees and fields, and the steward managed all of the owner's affairs.] When the rich man [one day] heard rumors that the steward was squandering (embezzling, spreading out) his property [the same word used for the younger son's squandering, see Luke 15:13],
