Luke 2:21

When eight days had passed and he was to be circumcised, he was given the name Jesus, which the angel had given him before he was conceived in the womb.
[The naming was part of the Jewish ceremony of circumcision of a boy. It took place in the family home. More details are described when John the Baptist went through the same ritual, see Luke 1:59–66. The name Jesus is derived from the name Joshua, which in Hebrew is composed of two words. The first part is Yahweh, which is the name of God, and the last part is Hosea, which means ’one who saves, redeems’. The name Jesus literally means “God is salvation”.]
