John 7:39

He said this about the Spirit, which those who believed in him would receive. For the [Holy] Spirit was not yet [given/poured out in full measure], because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
[A few manuscripts have Gk. dedomenon (poured out). This is probably an addition to clarify that John is writing here from a human perspective, that the Spirit had not been given as promised in Joel 2:28–32. The Holy Spirit has been in the world since creation, see Gen. 1:2, but from the day of Pentecost onwards, the Spirit would be poured out in full measure upon the believing church, see Acts 2:1; 19:2. Jesus had not yet been glorified, which happened in connection with his death, resurrection, and ascension.]
