Acts 1:2

up to the day he was taken up [into heaven, see verse 11], after he had given his commands through the Holy Spirit to those he had chosen as apostles (messengers).
[Luke's mention that he has written two volumes, the earlier work The Gospel of Luke and now The Acts of the Apostles, may have had purely practical reasons. An ancient book consisted of a papyrus scroll with a maximum length of about 10 meters, something that Luke takes full advantage of, since both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles consist of just under 20,000 Greek words each.
Luke summarizes his gospel by saying that it is about everything that Jesus "began" to do and teach. This suggests that Jesus' actions and teachings continue through the apostles and believers, and are still ongoing today. Jesus' earthly and heavenly works are intertwined, see Luke 22:69. During his time on earth, he worked physically, see verse 1; today he also works here "through the Holy Spirit," see verse 2.]
