Acts 27:17

Once they had brought it on board, they used aids (Gk. boetheia) [probably a technical term for ropes] and tied ropes around the hull. Fearing that they would be thrown onto the Syrte Banks [the reefs in the Gulf of Sidra and Gabès on the north coast of Africa], they dropped the drift anchor and let the ship drift.
